What is it?
For the last weeks, I’ve been working on a piece of music. A couple things: I’m not a musician, though I’ve dabbled with guitars, keyboards, pianos, and Logic Pro for a long time; I love music - it’s one of my favorite things in life - listening… seeing live shows…
So I’ve composed this piece of music and it’s a bit all over the place. It doesn’t really sound like any one thing… more of a pastiche of my taste, maybe. It has synths, splashy drums, a driving bass line, a Teenage Engineering Choir, cellos, violins… a lot. I honestly don’t know what it sounds like. And I wonder if that’s actually a problem. I’ve really tried to keep the critic out the whole time, and groped around in the sounds, experimenting , expanding, reducing, re-ordering, re-combining. I am truly a beginner and I love that. I think I have the shape now, and I’ll be working on the mix next.
